Arthur Haywood is Of Counsel to the firm. He represents nonprofit organizations, community development corporations, nonprofit lenders, charter schools, small businesses and individuals involved in complex and simple neighborhood redevelopment endeavors. He also represents victims of housing discrimination. This work has helped to produce jobs, neighborhood revitalization, business growth, housing, dignity and opportunity for persons and communities that have been traditional excluded.
Mr. Haywood represents the 4th District in the Pennsylvania State Senate. Prior to joining the firm he had been the principal attorney in the law firm of Haywood LLC Attorneys at Law in Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Haywood practiced law in the firm of Lord & Haywood, P.C. in Philadelphia, PA, and also with Regional Housing Legal Services in Glenside, PA and Community Legal Services in Philadelphia. In addition, he was Legal Counsel to Nueva Esperanza, Inc. and an adjunct lecturer at Esperanza College of Eastern University.
Mr. Haywood has received numerous awards, including the Humanitarian Award from the Allegheny East Conference of Seventh Day Adventist in 2006; the Equal Opportunity Award from the Montgomery County Advisory Committee of the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission in 2003 and the national attorney award from the Christian Legal Aid Society in 2002.
Mr. Haywood has served as a leader in government and with numerous nonprofit organizations. He served as Commissioner on the Cheltenham Board of Commissioners that governs Cheltenham Township from 2010 to 2014, and was President of the Board for 2012 and 2013.
Mr. Haywood has made numerous presentations on affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization and housing discrimination in local, regional and national forums. He has provided pro bono services to numerous organizations, including the National Association of Katrina Evacuees.
He received his B.A. magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Morehouse College in 1979. He received his M.Sc. as a Marshall Scholar from the London School of Economics and Political Science in 1981 and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School in 1985.
He has been a member of the Pennsylvania Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania since 1985.
He is married to Julie Haywood, has three adult children, Arthur, Olivia and Alexandra, and lives in Wyncote, PA.
